Organizing Communities: Helpful Leadership Skills for Developing a Community (from grassroots to digital)
An activist, strategist, and Next Gen Tech Policy Leader with Google, Ambar is coming to Medellín to teach us how to build the world we want to live in. While community organizing can be a natural skill found in leaders and entrepreneurs, it gets a little trickier when you’re working remotely, and even more so when you’re working remotely and want to bring a community from digital to IRL. She’ll be showing us what these efforts look like across industries, and how we can apply these skills to our own work.

Tourist Visa or Work Permit? For Modern Nomads, It’s a Delicate Question – But It Shouldn’t Be
After escaping the Harvard-Law-School-to-corporate pipeline, Sam became head counsel for Remote Year, where he spends his time traveling to governments all over the globe figuring out what the future of legal remote work looks like. Widespread connectivity means that people need to travel for work less, and that people are working while they travel more. However, due to the fact that existing laws haven’t caught up to current trends in work and mobility, it’s often unclear whether it’s “okay” to work remotely while on a tourist visa in a foreign country, or whether such behavior would require a work permit. His presentation will analyze the “tourist visa or work permit” question, and explain why the answer to this complex problem is simpler than you may think.

Previously announced speakers, workshoppers, and panelists:
Libryia Jones
Founder, Wanderist Life
Speaker
You’ve Got Time But Don’t Wait: Curing Timeline Trauma
You may know Libryia as the woman who created an entire business just to travel the world with her teenage daughter. This all-around badass will be talking us out of our fears and into the next stage of our nomad journey. We often let social expectations define what order we stage our lives in and define what we are “allowed” to do at each stage – you’d better travel before you have kids. If you have kids, you’d better wait until they graduate to chase your dreams. Us digital nomads have given the finger to convention, but we still suffer from the effects of Timeline Trauma, especially when things get hard. We’ll talk about healing from timeline trauma and tackling the symptomatic fears the come with it.
Amber Monaco
Writer
Speaker
The 4-Hour Hobby: Why You Need a Hobby and Not Another Business
Amber is a writer and self described “content machine”. If she’s not scuba diving, she’s viciously defending the Oxford comma. She’ll be speaking at 7in7 about the importance of embracing hobbies, instead of another new business. We’ve all been there: you find something you kind of like, you start spending time on it, and before you know it you’re riddled with guilt about how you should be spending time working on your business instead of on “that thing” that isn’t bringing you money. So, you either drop it completely, or you start thinking about how to turn “that thing” into – yet another – business. You’ll be challenged to find a simple hobby that you can take with you when you travel that inspires, which will result in a more creative business.
Vianessa Castaños
Writer & Consultant
Speaker
Inclusivity and Social Responsibility in the Digital Nomad Space
Vianessa is a veteran nomad, writer, and actor with a penchant for vibrant storytelling. She’ll be speaking at 7in7 about how to be intentionally inclusive and socially responsible within the greater nomadic community. Location independent jobs have given rise to digital nomads and long-term traveler; in this presentation, she’ll discuss how we can become more aware of (and minimize) any negative impact we may have on the local communities where we travel and how to be more inclusive and intentional while in those communities.
Daisy Onubogu
VP, Community at Roam
Speaker
Make Friends, Influence People, Keep Your Soul
Daisy is a cake-loving feminist, VP of Community at Roam, and a fellow 7in7 alumni. In between bursts of globetrotting, she’ll be landing at 7in7 to share how we can all power up our networks, positively influence people, and keep our souls squeaky clean in the process. More than ever the key to economic success, or at least achieving it without losing the will to live, is who you know. So how to build that network? Maintain it? Have it work for you? Daisy’s got the scoop.
Liz Scully
Founder, Rethink Central
Speaker
Think Like a Film Crew – Your Story is Important
Liz is practically a household name if you were at 7in7 Year Two. The master of masterminds is back for Year Three with fresh content and new perspectives on how we consider our lives and the stories we tell about ourselves. Story is woven through everything we do from Instagram captions to the tales we most certainly keep from our mothers. Stories link us to our community, our history and ultimately ourselves. It’s human to remember stories and warm to those that tell them. But as nomads, we often share only one aspect of ourselves – the plucky traveller, the nerd on the move, the jaded wifi seeker. We shortchange ourselves by not sharing our full spectrum. This talk will inspire you to tell more stories and why it’s not just fun but vital to who you are.
