The entire mission of 7in7 is to make location independent life better by creating long-lasting community amongst digital nomads – what we lovingly refer to as our “nomad family.” One of our absolute favorite ways to do this is with attendee-created meetups!

Aerial yoga sessions, travel hacking skillshares, LGBTQ movie nights, cat cafe hangouts, masterminding, day trips, hikes, craft brewery tastings, and of course our annual nomad brunch – this is where some of the most fun happens at 7in7!

If you can think it, you can host it.

Any 7in7er – from speaker to attendee – can create & attend meetups. And we’re here to help you make one!

Who can host a meetup?

Any 7in7er! Meetups are hosted by 7in7 attendees, speakers, workshoppers, panelists, volunteers, apprentices, and founders.

How do I create one?

In the first week of October, you’ll be emailed a link to download our iPhone App or go to 7in7.co/meetups and sign in (instructions will be in the email). You’ll just need to enter the date, time, location + description, and you’re done!

What should it be about?

That’s up to you! Whether you want to gather fellow introverted nomads, find some people to do an escape room with you, meet up with other LGBTQIA nomads, host a group of entrepreneur developers, or find a friend to join you at the local vegan cafe – whatever you can imagine, you can find your people.

You can also use this as an opportunity to lead a small workshop, do a skillshare, or promote your work in other ways!

When can I host it?

You can host it anytime during the conference from October 16-23, or even before and after those dates, but it’s best not to conflict with any of the major events. Here are the absolute best times to host a meetup:

• Wednesday October 17: Anytime before 6pm
• Thursday October 18: 7-11am, 1-2pm, 3:30pm-10pm
  (workshop day – some people will be busy from 11:30am-1pm and 2-3:30pm)
• Friday October 19: 7-11am, 1-2pm, 3:30pm-10pm
  (workshop day – some people will be busy from 11:30am-1pm and 2-3:30pm)
• Saturday October 20: After 6pm
• Monday October 22: 9-11am, 12:30-2pm, 3:30pm-10pm
  (workshop day – some people will be busy from 11:30am-1pm and 2-3:30pm)
• Tuesday October 23: TBD (pending volunteer opportunity time)

NOTE: If you want to host a meetup on October 15, check with the venue to make sure they’ll be open. It’s a national holiday in Colombia.

What information do I need to provide?

Make sure you let people know what to expect – if they need to pay for something (like a ticket to a show or a meal) or bring anything (like a laptop or notebook). And definitely make sure they know where they’re going (post the name & map location of the meetup location along with any landmarks – remember addresses in Medellín aren’t always Google Map friendly – and who they’re looking for (ex: “We’ll meet in front of the cafe” or “I’ll be the person in the green shirt!”).

Where should I host it?

Medellín is home to about 1,000,000 cafes, bars, restaurants, parks, and coworking spaces – with the El Poblado neighborhood being the center of it all. We’ve compiled a few of our favorites on this map and in a list below, but feel free to use Google or local FB groups to find more!

CAFES

• Dharma Vegan Cafe – Only open from 12-4pm on weekdays, this small cafe has no set menu but serves the best menu del dia in the city. Good for groups of 2-5, though it can get busy from 1-3pm.
• Cafe Velvet – Super cute and friendly cafe with a small food menu and comprehensive coffee, tea, and juice menu. Also a decent coworking spot with semi-fast wifi. Good for groups of 2-6.
• Urbania Cafe – Friendly spot with great coffee, paninis, salads, and surprisingly good wifi. Very close to our workshop venue. Good for groups of 2-8, though it does get busy during the afternoons.
• Literal Cold Brew Bar – Yes, that is actually it’s name. They brew their own cold brew, make mixed tea drinks, and have regular bar drinks and food in a covered outdoor space with a beautiful mural. Super friendly Venezuelan bartender! Good for groups of any size.
• Cocolatte Cafe – A bit out of the way from El Poblado, but this is the 7in7 crew’s favorite coffee spot in the city. They have relationships with the coffee farmers and can tell you everything about the beans and fields surrounding Medellín. Good for groups of 2-8.

RESTAURANTS

• Crepes & Waffles – Multiple locations all over the city. Great sweet and savory crepes, wraps, sandwiches, and pasta. Also has amazing ice cream. Despite its name, this place only opens after noon. It’s notorious for slow service, but most locations are large enough to hold meetups of any size.
• Home Burger – Casual indoor/outdoor spot with tasty burgers and veggie burgers. Good for groups of 2-10.
• Cuon – If you’re looking for a fancy foodie night out, this is a delicious Asian fusion spot that’s quite chic. Good for groups of 2-12, though it can get busy especially on Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights. There’s a small bar upstairs where you can wait for your table to be ready.

BARS

• Clandestino – A super cool indoor-outdoor lounge spot with a lovely patio and a speakeasy-style entrance. Great handcrafted cocktails and an interesting food menu. Just look for the nondescript black door on Carrera 35 and either ask the doorman to enter or push the button if he’s not there. Pricey for Medellín. Good for groups of 2-10.
• Bogota Beer Company – Brewpub chain with food and beer flights good for groups of any size!
• SkyBar – A bit fancy, this rooftop bar has a fantastic view and good sushi, but it can get busy. Good for groups of 2-10.

COWORKING SPACES

• NODO/WORKIA – Our workshop space (formerly known as NODO and now called WORKIA) has crazy fast wifi and plenty of hot desks space available, as well as private offices. The workshop room is also available for rental by the hour.
• Seedspace – Another spot popular with 7in7ers with super friendly staff and a semi-outdoor event space available for rent.
• Selina Coworking – Has lots of varied spaces to host a meetup, from a corporate-ish conference room to a cool meditation area.

OTHER SPACES

• Santa Fe Mall – Huge 6-floor mall with a movie theater, massive food court, and a garden area that is sometimes set up for gatherings.
• The park outside Casa Teatro – Our main stage venue has a small grassy park popular with kids and dogs that would be perfect for outdoor enjoyment. Also has a lovely cafe.
• Selina – This is a multi-purpose space with a bar, coworking space, shops, cafe, and a hostel. Good for meetups of any size!
