An open letter to the 7in7 community:
The last two years have brought a major shift to the digital nomad world. Tons of 7in7ers have gotten home bases (including me!). Some of us have gotten residency in new countries. Even more have switched up career paths or started new businesses.
Maybe you aren’t sure that you “count” as a nomad anymore. Should you even come to 7in7?
Absolutely.
I get it. Before the pandemic, the longest I’d ever stayed anywhere was 3 months. But now I have a home base, furniture, and am pondering getting a cat. Do I still call myself a nomad? Hell yeah. It’s part of my identity. But maybe you don’t feel that way, and that’s great too. The diversity of our lifestyles is part of what makes the 7in7 community great.
Whether you identify as a digital nomad or location independent or something else entirely, if you create a life on your own terms, then you belong with us.
We at 7in7 have never defined the term nomad, because we believe it’s a personal decision. Even before the pandemic, some 7in7ers had a home base where they spent most of the year, either in their home country or in an adopted home. Some changed locations very quickly and still do. Others spend a year or more in a place before moving on. They are remote workers, entrepreneurs, multipotentialites, and globally-minded.
So what does it even mean to be a digital nomad now? What will it mean for the next 10, 20, or 50 years? That’s what we aim to explore at this year’s conference.
If you’re craving community of like-minded people who want to discuss secondary passports, managing a home base, raising global-citizen children (or never having children), ethical travel, climate change, entrepreneurship, the future of remote work, what retirement will look like, creating a nomad village somewhere in the world, as well as swap tips on how we’ll live, work, travel, and thrive in this new world, this is the community for you. Whether you call yourself a digital nomad is not important.
So, will you join us?
I hope you’ll be part of the incredible 7in7 community in Montréal this September. We can’t wait to see you!
